Call of Cthulhu Game in Development

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.

A video game adaptation of the highly successful pen-and-paper RPG Call of Cthulhu is in development by Cyanide games.  The RPG is based on the twisted universe from the stories of H.P. Lovecraft.  Call of Cthulhu is a RPG Investigation game with psychological horror and stealth mechanics.  On a mission to find the truth behind the death of an acclaimed artist and her family on a backwater island, the player will soon uncover a more disturbing truth as the Great Dreamer, Cthulhu, prepares its awakening.  The game will be built on the Unreal Engine and feature semi-open environments.

Other games have drawn from Lovecraft as well, such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent and most recently, From Software’s Bloodborne.  The Bloodborne boss Ebretias of the Great Cosmos mirrors Lovecraft’s description of Cthulhu in his short story.  Both of those games are fantastic and hopefully Call of Cthulhu follows suit.

Call of Cthulhu will be released in 2017 for PC and consoles.  What are your thoughts on the Lovecraftian horror game?

  1. The sequel to UFO: Enemy Unknown, X-COM: Terror from the Deep, also draws heavily on Lovecraftian lore for inspiration. Looking for forward to this game, looks interesting. Helps that I’m a big Lovecraft fan.
